Saturday, October 17 | 2:00–4:00 PM
Few solo training methods, drills, or strategies benefit your taijutsu as much as training with a six-foot roku-shaku bo. The attention and intention required, the demanding footwork, and the awareness necessary to effectively move the weapon all directly benefit your overall platform of movement.
Join us on Saturday, October 17, from 2:00–4:00 PM for a two-hour Bo-Jutsu training intensive. We’ll work through fundamentals such as kamae, basic bo movements, strikes, and transitions before beginning our exploration of the Kuji no Bo.
The Kuji no Bo is a set of “shinkin,” or fighting kata, rather than “sabaki” kata, which primarily serve as movement exercises. These kata are taught and trained exclusively within the To-Shin Do system and provide a deeper exploration of using the bo as a functional martial arts weapon.
Our goal is for you to leave the workshop feeling comfortable and competent enough to begin developing your own taijutsu-supportive Bo-Jutsu practice. You’ll be able to use these skills for home training, meditative movement, and exercise while also improving the taijutsu you practice in the dojo.
The workshop will also help prepare you for more advanced To-Shin Do training—as a To-Shin Do Ni-Dan, proficiency with the bo is required—and provide a foundation for exploring other classical weapons, such as the naginata and yari.
Looking forward to training with you all!

November 14 | 2:00–4:00 PM
Reverse De La Riva is a powerful guard position with both offensive and defensive applications. Different configurations of this intuitive position allow for a wide range of sweeps and kuzushi opportunities, creating openings for submissions while also putting the brakes on your opponent’s passing attempts.
On the afternoon of November 14, Nick “The Wizard” Kane will lead an exploration of Reverse De La Riva, breaking down the key concepts that make the position work and some of the options that open up when those concepts are properly applied.
Whether you’re looking to expand your guard game, improve your ability to disrupt and control a passing opponent, or add new pathways to sweeps and submissions, you won’t want to miss this opportunity.
Join us from 2:00–4:00 PM and learn some magic from THE WIZARD!
