Dress for Success

Look Good. Feel Good. Train Even Better.

At Quest Jiu-Jitsu & Self-Defense, we believe that how you show up—literally—matters. Whether you're prepping for your first Mighty Dragons class or your 100th sparring round, what you wear helps set the tone for your training. Around here, we don’t just train for the job—we dress for the job we want… and that job is to be unstoppable.

Here’s everything you need to know to show up sharp, safe, and repping A Team Called Quest with pride.

🥋 Jiu-Jitsu & Taijutsu Students

Black gi? Always a win.
Whether you’re rolling in Jiu-Jitsu or striking and flowing in Taijutsu, the classic black gi is always appropriate. We recommend a thicker weave gi—those grips, chokes, and throws are no joke, and the sturdier fabric holds up to the action.

Got a gi from outside our pro shop?
Awesome! You're still part of the crew. We offer a variety of dojo patches to customize your gi and show your Quest pride. Stick them on and make it your own—we love to see that team spirit.

Color rules? Only one:
For Jiu-Jitsu classes, feel free to wear any color gi you like—as long as it doesn’t include anything offensive in terms of images or slogans. Again, grab a patch or two to show you're repping Team Quest wherever you go.

👣 About Those Tabi…

If you're in our Taijutsu group and prefer to train in tabi, thank you for keeping things authentic! However, we’re asking everyone to switch from the rubber-soled outdoor style to the canvas-soled indoor tabi (the kind you’ll see in dojos throughout Japan). This helps us keep our mats in top condition and ensures the cleanest training surface possible. Your cooperation keeps our dojo beautiful and safe!

🐉 Mighty Dragons (Ages 4–6)

Our youngest warriors should wear:

  • Gi pants

  • A Quest t-shirt or rash guard

  • Their belt (of course!)

Easy, comfy, and just right for building skills and confidence.

🛡 Under the Gi

What you wear under the gi matters too:

  • Rash guards are ideal

  • Sports bras for support (ladies)

  • Shirtless is fine too—for the guys only

We train hard, and we train respectfully.

🛍 The Pro Shop Has Your Back

We do our best to keep affordable and premium academy gear stocked in our pro shop—gi tops, pants, t-shirts, rash guards, patches, gloves, and even seasonal drops. It’s a great way to support the school and keep your training wardrobe sharp.

🥊 Don’t Forget Your Gear

  • Mouthguards are highly recommended for both Jiu-Jitsu and Taijutsu.

  • Gloves are required for all Taijutsu classes. Trust us—you want to protect your hands and your partners face while you master the art of controlled chaos.

At Quest, every detail matters—and that includes how we show up on the mats. So suit up with pride, take care of your gear, and remember: when you dress for success, you train for greatness.

We’re proud to have you on the mats with us. You’re not just part of a dojo—you’re part of A Team Called Quest.
