Why we teach both BJJ and Taijutsu

“Why We Teach Both”

We get this question a lot and wanted to share our thoughts on the strengths of each system individually and how they complement each other.

Teaching both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and Taijutsu offers a comprehensive approach to self-defense and personal growth, addressing different aspects of martial arts training.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ):

Ground-Based Self-Defense: BJJ focuses extensively on grappling and submission techniques. In real-life self-defense situations, a significant number end up on the ground. BJJ equips practitioners with the skills to defend themselves effectively in these scenarios.

Physical Fitness: BJJ provides an intense cardiovascular workout, promoting overall fitness, flexibility, and strength. It enhances endurance and agility, vital components of self-defense.

Confidence and Mental Toughness: By overcoming challenges and progressively mastering techniques, BJJ builds confidence and mental resilience.

Taijutsu (To-Shin Do, Ninjutsu):

Self-Defense Skills: Taijutsu integrates various martial arts techniques, including striking, grappling, and evasion, offering a well-rounded self-defense system. It emphasizes practical and effective methods for real-life situations, preparing practitioners for a wide array of threats. Taijutsu techniques are designed to be adaptable to different situations and opponents. It also emphasizes the importance of mental and emotional control, enabling practitioners to stay calm and composed in stressful situations.

Cultural and Philosophical Elements: Taijutsu incorporates traditional martial arts values, including discipline, respect, and humility. It often includes meditation and mindfulness practices, promoting mental clarity and emotional balance.

By training in both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Taijutsu, students benefit from a well-rounded martial arts education. This comprehensive training approach not only equips them with effective self-defense skills, but also fosters physical fitness, mental discipline, and personal growth.
