Programs and Process at Chapel Hill Quest At Chapel Hill Quest, we recognize that each of our members is unique, with their own abilities and goals. To accommodate this, we offer a variety of programs that allow individuals to challenge themselves in different ways, ensuring that everyone can tailor their experience to meet their personal needs. Pressure-Testing Techniques To truly test our techniques and ourselves, we engage in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) rolling and Jiu-Jitsu-style "Fight Simulation," which involves rolling with light strikes. This "force-on-force" training provides essential real-world experience in applying techniques under pressure. Technical Skill Development In our To-Shin Do (TSD) classes, we focus on "free-response" situationally-specific scenario-based practice with minimal resistance. This method allows our members to practice applying multi-range responses against a dynamic attacker. The slightly slower pace of these drills encourages creativity and enables us to safely simulate more dangerous self-defense scenarios. Conditioning and Versatility For conditioning, our members participate in Jiu-Jitsu randori (live rolling) and striking drills using kickboxing pads in almost every training session. While we used to include live striking sparring rounds, we've shifted towards Jiu-Jitsu-style fight simulations, which we believe offer a safer yet still effective way to develop striking skills. Holistic Martial Arts Training By participating in all the programs we offer, our members can quickly become highly competent martial artists. They will gain proficiency across multiple ranges, develop the ability to compete in grappling combat sports if they choose, and build a diverse skill set for effective self-defense. A Training Path for Everyone At Chapel Hill Quest, we believe in optimizing training to meet a variety of goals. Whether you're interested in self-defense, competition, fitness, or even a form of moving meditation, our goal is to create an environment where all these aspirations can be pursued together.
